It’s been an exciting start to November and it seems that technology assisted review (TAR) has finally reached the tipping point here in my backyard. Following some recent changes to our federal procedure rules, we saw what I believe to be the first document order in Australia to explicitly specify TAR.

A recent report by the United Kingdom’s police oversight body, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), highlights a key issue that law enforcement agencies across the globe are facing: there is an overwhelming amount of digital evidence piling up. 

ADF Solutions has released Triage-Investigator, the latest evolution of its digital forensic triage tool designed for field deployment. Triage-Investigator has a proven track record of providing investigators with easy, quick access to court-defendable evidence to process criminal cases. 

Heureka Software, a US developer that specialises in unstructured data collection, has successfully raised $US1.1 million in seed funding and expects to raise that figure to $US1.8 million in angel funding by year's end.

AccessData Group has announced the simultaneous releases of AD eDiscovery 6.1 and FTK 6.1, as well as AD Lab 6.1, the company's solution for large agencies with extensive, data-intensive caseloads. These releases feature enhanced data collection, improved automation and a 68 percent average increase in indexing speed.

One of the most onerous parts of litigation for a party is undertaking discovery or disclosure of documents relevant to the dispute. This involves collating, reviewing and determining the relevance of those documents and is a time- and resource-consuming process; one that becomes that much harder when dealing with documents that may have been archived, deleted or destroyed.

Sonasoft has announced the release of SonaVault 5.0, a major upgrade to its email archiving and eDiscovery software. SonaVault 5.0 now features a performance boost that archives email and produces complex eDiscovery searches eight times faster than previous versions. 

Organsations habitually over-retain information, especially unstructured electronic information, for many reasons. However, many organisations simply have not addressed what to do with this data so fall back on relying on individual employees to decide what should be kept and for how long and what should be disposed of.

Ayfie has unveiled a new text understanding engine that the company claims can quarry volumes of structured and unstructured content at lightning speed, with near-human accuracy, saving time and money.  

Kroll Ontrack has released Communication Insight, a new application within ediscovery suite Relativity that combines an intuitive view of email conversations with powerful visual cues to help users more efficiently review communication data to draw immediate insight. This release focuses on email data, with forthcoming releases allowing users to review Bloomberg chat, transcribed audio, video and social media data.
